Margaret L. Schuchert, age 93, of Spirit Lake, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. She was born on December 11, 1916, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Charles and Ingrid (Nielsen) King.               

 Margaret graduated from La Porte City High School in 1933,and then went on to further her education, graduating from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in 1937. She was united in marriage to Richard Schuchert on May 29, 1940, in Waterloo, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Beth, Betty and Jim.               

Margaret taught English for thirty-four years. She taught in Superior for a year, Melcher for two years, Hamilton for two years, Dike for nine years and Spirit Lake for twenty years. She always felt that it was a blessing to be able to help make a contribution to the lives of students. Margaret also taught tap dancing and piano lessons for many years.

Margaret was a member of the Eastern Star, White Shrine, Delta Kappa Gamma, American Legion Auxiliary, Pi Phi Omega, Lakes Regional Healthcare Auxiliary, Voluntary Action Center and the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending her spare time reading, knitting, golfing, baking and working on crossword puzzles.                

Margaret is survived by her three children, Beth McKee of Altoona, Betty Gray, and her husband, Harry, of Marshalltown, and Dr. James Schuchert, and his wife, Deenie, of Spirit Lake; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; a grandson, Todd Schuchert; a son-in-law, Jerry McKee; and a sister, Esther.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00A.M. Saturday, April 17, at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. A memorial visitation will be held Friday, from 4:00P.M. until 6:00P.M. at the Schuchert Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Margaret’s name to the United Methodist Church.
