Kent "Red" Van Ampting, age 58, of Milford, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at his home in Milford. He was born on August 6, 1951, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Van and Marie (Walstrom) Van Ampting.

Red graduated from Spencer High School in 1969. He furthered his education at Iowa Lakes Community College. Red has worked the last three years owning and operating Red’s Rides in the Lakes Area with his son, Justin. Red has given thousand’s of people rides in the area. When Red was not driving, he enjoyed fishing, boating, auto detailing and had a true knack for fixing things.

Red is survived by his two sons, Jamie Van Ampting, and his wife, Sheena, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Justin Van Ampting of Milford; two step-children, Joe Clemens, and his wife, Wendy, of Ames, and Jeanie Clemens of Webster City; one grandson, Brayden Van Ampting of Milford; five step-grandchildren, Joey, Jordan and Jaden Clemens of Ames, and Steve and Elizabeth Clemens of Webster City; a sister-in-law, Valorie Van Ampting of Spencer; a step-sister, Karen Aasgard, and her husband, Rick, of Lake Mills; and a few nieces and nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert; and a nephew, Marc.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, from 3:00P.M. until 5:00P.M. at the Schuchert Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Red’s name.
