Thomas D. Porteous O.D. followed the light to eternity on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at his home in Manson. Tom saw his first light August 6, 1947, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Donald F. and Mary G. Porteous. He attended the parochial schools of Marshalltown Iowa. Graduated from Lenihan High school and attended Marshalltown Community College, prior to obtaining his Bachelors and Doctor of Optometry Degree from the Southern California College of Optometry in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Porteous married the light of his life, Kim Anile Hunter on June 19, 1971, in Long Beach, California. They established residence in Iowa Falls, Iowa, in 1972; raised their family, Scott and Analee and he practiced Primary Care Optometry, and bending light with lenses, until his retirement in 2006. Following retirement, they moved to North Twin Lake, where Tom enjoyed the sunlight, fishing, trap shooting and the lake activities. Tom is survived by Kim his wife of 39 years; his mother, Mary G. Porteous of Urbandale; his in-laws, W.M. and Ruth Hunter of Huntington Beach, California; his son, Scott of Victorville, California; his daughter, Analee Gray, her husband Rex, and grandchildren Taitn and Jenah of Urbandale; a sister, Mary Mitchell PhD of Cedar Rapids; and his sister-in-law, Jan Benz of Huntington Beach, California. His father, Donald Porteous, preceded him in death. Services following cremation will be held at St .Thomas Catholic Church, Manson, Iowa, under the direction of Father Richard Reis. The family will be present one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery in Manson. The Schuchert Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. |
