06/24/10 - Elvin Strope < Back
 

Elvin B. Strope, 87, entered eternal life on Thursday, June 24th, 2010 in Greeley, Colorado.  He was one of ten children born on February 22, 1923, in Venus, Nebraska to William Wallace and Dora (Ickler) Strope.      

In 1941, he graduated from Orchard High School in Nebraska and went on to Grand Island Business School.  He then returned to work on his family’s farm.    

In 1945, Elvin married Norma Bennett and they farmed together until they moved to Dickinson County, Iowa in 1953.  It was here they remained in farming until retirement in 1989.  In 2006 they moved to Greeley, Colorado.     

Elvin served on the Board of Trustees in Richland Township and on the Board of Adjustment in Dickinson County.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Estherville where he served as a trustee and  sang in the church choir for over 50 years     

He will be sadly missed by his wife and two daughters;  Dianne (Jon) Schiltz of Greeley, Colorado, and Dawn (Larry) Van Ess of Union Grove, Wisconsin.  He is further survived by four grandchildren;  Jared (Allison) Schiltz of Denver, Colorado, Emily (Tim) Smith of Madison Wisconsin, Alison (Jeff) Nielsen of Union Grove, Wisconsin and Jeremy (Jen) Van Ess of Washington, D.C.  He is also survived by four great-grandchildren;  Brenden, Bryn, and Evan Nielsen.     

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers;  Margaret, Bernice and Leora, Bernard, Wendell and Wayne.     

Elvin has deeded his body for medical research to the University of Iowa School of Medicine.  A memorial service will be held on July 10th at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Estherville.  Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Estherville or the charity of one’s choice.
