Biography

Gladys B. Schmidt, age 94, of Spirit Lake, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake. She was born on September 30, 1917, on the family farm in Rural Dickinson County to Albert and Clara Brunsvold.
Gladys graduated from North Superior High School and attended Iowa State University and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school before she was united in marriage to Earl Schmidt. After farming in Superior Township, they owned and operated Schmidt Real Estate where she worked as a real estate broker.
Gladys enjoyed spending her spare time square dancing and playing bridge. The true passion of her life was her family!
Gladys is survived by her children, Harlan Schmidt and his wife, Barb, of Spearfish, South Dakota, Doug Schmidt and his wife, Debby, of Excelsior, Minnesota, David Schmidt and his wife, Jackie, of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Steve Schmidt and his wife, Julie, of San Francisco, California, Diane Schmidt of Emmetsburg, and Ron Schmidt and his fiancé, Shivaun, of Portland, Oregon; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Tatman of Spirit Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Lillian Ruth.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be held Friday, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Schuchert Funeral Home.
