Kevin B. Bakker, age 44, of Spirit Lake, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was born on September 26, 1968, in Rock Valley, Iowa, to Bernard and Evelyn Bakker.
Kevin graduated from Boyden-Hull Community Schools in 1987, and Western Iowa Tech, with a Police Science Degree and Iowa Western with a LPN Nursing Degree. He worked as the assistant manager of the Pizza Ranch in Spirit Lake.
Kevin enjoyed spending his spare time hunting and fishing. His true love in life was his family! He started the Purple Heart Outdoors to help wounded or disabled veterans obtain hunting and fishing trips.
Kevin is survived by his fiancé, Michelle Holmes of Spirit Lake; his children, Fisher Bakker of Spirit Lake, Katherine Cutler-Bakker, Hunter Bakker and Kennedy Bakker, all of Madison, Wisconsin; his mother, Evelyn Bakker of Sioux Center; sisters, Linda Vanden Bosch, and her husband, Ron of Hull, Carolyn Bakker, and her husband, Albert of Rock Valley, Donna Wojciechowski of Platte, South Dakota, and Sandy Hoekstra, and her husband, Kevin of Sioux Center; brothers, Gerrit Bakker, and his wife, Joyce of Inwood, Larry Bakker, and his wife, Donita of Omaha, Rodney Bakker, and his wife, Lisa of Spirit Lake, and Dale Bakker, and his wife, Kathy of Sioux Center; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Jonah Holmes; his father, Bernard Bakker; and brother-in-laws, Paul Wojciechowski and Wilmer Middendorp.
Funeral services for both Jonah and Kevin will be held at 11:00A.M. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Faith Evangelical Free Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be held Friday, from 4:00P.M. until 7:00P.M. at the Faith Evangelical Free Church. Burial will be at Lakeview Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Kevin Bakker Memorial Fund.
