Dee Tenold

DeEtta Irene (Schleusner) Tenold, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015, in Spirit Lake. She was born to Paul and Irene (Spangler) Schleusner, on March 29, 1942, in Forest City, Iowa. She graduated from Forest City High School and married Gary Tenold on September 3, 1960, at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City, Iowa. To this union, four children were born. Gary and Dee owned and operated the Tenold Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, Iowa, for 15 years. After leaving Spirit Lake in 1980, they purchased funeral homes in Belmond and Klemme. Dee worked alongside Gary in every aspect of the funeral business and especially enjoyed talking to and supporting families in their most difficult time. Gary and Dee retired in 2001, and moved back to Spirit Lake. She was active in her Catholic faith and was a member of the Rosary Society, a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America in Spirit Lake, served on the Chamber of Commerce Board, and also served as past president of the Culture Study Club Hospital Auxiliary. After retirement in Spirit Lake, she stayed active in funeral service with the Schuchert Funeral Home. Dee also enjoyed playing cards with friends and her children and grandchildren, cooking, baking, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her four children; daughter, Kim Ingwersen and her husband, Mark and their children, Dr. Laura Slawson and her husband, James of Spirit Lake, and Sarah Fonken and her husband, Brandon and their children, Brayden and Tenslee of Jewell, Iowa; son, Dr. Scott Tenold and his wife, Dr. Lisa and their children, Jake and Cole of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; daughter, Kristi Funk and her children, Austin of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Garrett of Milford, Iowa; and son, Dr. Steven Tenold and his four children, Mackenzie, Cael, Carson, and Cade of Belmond, Iowa. She is also survived by her sister, Dianna Erdman of Belmond, Iowa; and her brother, Dr. Larry Schleusner and his wife, Pat of Las Vegas, Nevada; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary; grandson, Wesley; and brother-in-law, Lyle Goll. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be held Monday, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil for the Deceased at 7:00 p.m. at the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Margaret's Cemetery.
