Bonnie Gross

Bonnie Gross, 72, of Spirit Lake passed away July 28th at Lakes Regional Health Care surrounded by her loving family. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, August 3 at 10:30 at Spirit Lake United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 2 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Online condolences may be sent to www.spiritlakefuneralhome.com Bonnie was born April 27, 1951, to Leonard and Melba (Hilliard) Wallace in Spirit Lake, Iowa. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1969. After high school she worked as a clerk in the Dickinson County Court House. Bonnie then started doing in home childcare for the next 28 years. On January 1, 1972, she married Daryl Gross. To this union three children were born Jeremy, Matthew, and Kristi. In addition to her in-home daycare, Bonnie was also a proud Cub Scout leader for years where she shared her love of crafts with many cub scouts. She would plan annual trips to the Sioux Falls Falls for the Cub Scouts, and even one year an appearance on Captain Kangaroo! Bonnie was known for her baking and was referred to as the “Kookie Lady” at the Spirit Lake Farmers Market. She would start baking breads, cookies, angel food cakes and many other delicious treats on Wednesday and wouldn’t stop until the wee hours of Saturday morning. Bonnie was a member of the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church. She was a past treasurer of TOPS (Take Off Pound Sensibly). She was a proud participant in the Relay For Life Survivors Walk. Bonnie made the survivors walk every year for the past 9 years. When she wasn’t baking Bonnie loved to play cards and go to Bingo. Puzzles, crafting, and playing with her cats were also pastimes that she enjoyed. Bonnie had a deep love for her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. Those left to bake a batch of cookies in Bonnie’s memory are her children Jeremy (Tara) of Lake Stevens, Washington; Matthew (Shaela) of Spirit Lake; and Kristi (Brian) of Milford; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers Merle, Jerald, Keith, and Mike; along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Daryl and brother Steve. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Dickinson County Relay for Life in Bonnie’s name.
