Janice Elaine Sangl

Janice Sangl, 82, of Whapeton, passed away on May 17, 2023, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. A memorial service for Janice will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2023, at the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. The burial will take place in the Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Online condolences may be left at the www.spiritlakefuneralhome.com Janice Elaine Sangl was born on December 27, 1940, at Worthington, MN to Iver and Jennie (Whalen) Piscator. After residing on a farm near Worthington until Janice was 1½ years old they moved to a farm in Sioux Valley, Jackson County. Janice attended school at Sioux Valley until she graduated in 1958. She participated in Band, Vocal Music., FFA, Newspaper, and Library while in school. She was active in 4H and won a trip to the Minnesota State Fair with her Holstein Calf. She married James Sangl. Janice worked for the State of Minnesota for thirty years until 1995 when she moved to the Iowa Great Lakes, and she sold Real Estate for 10 years. Janice loved playing golf with her friends and shooting indoor archery winning numerous trophies. She served several terms as Elder and Clerk of Session, considered herself a lucky fisherwoman and enjoyed fishing tournaments with Jim. Janice’s last fishing tournament she recently hosted for her grandchildren was a lasting memory for the family. Janice was active in her church. She taught Sunday School, was an Elder for several terms and sang in the choir. She sang solos at church and funerals. Janice and Jim Purchased a winter home in Arizona where they golfed and played shuffleboard. Janice also sang solos at jam sessions. Janice was always there for her children when they were in activities. She served as a 4H leader. She is survived by her husband James and her sons Monty of Nevada, MO and Douglas of Sioux Falls, SD. Granddaughter Jennifer Woltjer and her husband Jesse Thies and three great grandchildren Makenna, Nicholas, and Eva of Winside, NE. One brother Robert (Barb) of Sioux Falls, SD and three brothers-in-law David (Jackie) of Spirit Lake, Lonney (Karen) of Wahpeton, IA, and Tom Murphy of Spencer, IA, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Elaine Sangl Woltjer, daughter in law Lori Jungjohan-Sangl and her sister Ruby Murphy.
