Larry Alan Ross

Larry Ross, 76, of Arnolds Park passed away on August 26, 2022, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. A Military Ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16th, 2022, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, IA, followed by an informal gathering to toast Larry. The location will will be announced after the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you consider making a contribution to the Brain Research Foundation at https://www.thebrf.org/donate/ Larry Alan Ross was born on March 25, 1946, to Leonard and Rita (Mattern) Ross. After graduating from high school, Larry attended Iowa State University for one year before entering the military where he served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot and instructor. He did not talk much about it, but the family was surprised to discover the accolades from his time in the military. When stationed in Vietnam he was awarded several decorations, including the Bronze Star for heroic service in a combat zone. After the war, he continued in the National Guard, and in total, served his country for 22 years. Larry returned to Iowa State University and graduated with a BS in Business Administration. He spent the majority of his professional career as a Computer Programmer for Pioneer Hi-bred, where he retired in 2009. Larry married Vicki (DeRoy) Rose on May 31, 1986, at Lake Tahoe. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, shuffleboard, boating, trips to the beach, movies, HiFi audio and his dogs. He loved to indulge in a nightly bowl of ice cream and will be fondly remembered for wearing his black jacket and ball cap. He was always on time for social hour where he enjoyed spending time with his friends. Of all the things he enjoyed doing in life, he treasured the time spent with his grandchildren! Left to cherish his memory is his wife Vicki Ross of Arnolds Park, IA; sons Jason (Holly) Secaur of New Virginia, IA; Kevin (Jen) Ross of Tullahoma, TN; grandchildren Taylor, Ross, Cole and Zoey Secaur; great-grandson Jordan Secaur; and his sister Linda Schafer of Alta, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Casey (Ross) Young and his brother-in-law Glen Schafer.
