Dorothy O’Brion, 100, of Emmetsburg, formerly of Fort Dodge passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Accura Care Center in Spirit Lake. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Dorothy was born on June 26, 1917 to Fred and Edith Hollister. She was raised on a farm and attended rural school in Douglas Township north of Fort Dodge. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1934 and went on to earn her teaching degree from Fort Dodge Junior College in 1936. She was very proud that she taught for a few years in a rural school. Dorothy was married to James T. Billing in 1937. He preceded her in death in 1964. She was later married to Floyd O’Brion in 1971. He preceded her in death in 1974. She continued to reside in Fort Dodge until 2005 when she moved to Emmetsburg where she resided at Willow Ridge. She worked as a Clerk and Secretary for a Congregational Church for several years. She later worked and retired from working in the offices at Pan-O-Gold Baking Co. and Friendship Haven. Like her father, Dorothy was a huge Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed watching golf on TV. She also loved to crochet. She is survived by her daughter Norma (Elmer) Lubinus of Spirit Lake; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands James Billings and Floyd O’Brion; brother Kenneth Hollister; daughter Lois (Jack) Dugan and daughter Joyce (Bill) Myers.
