Elmer Vernon Lubinus Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Elmer V. Lubinus, 84, of Spirit Lake passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church in Milford. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the church. Elmer was born on June 10, 1938, to John & Antje (Heyen) Lubinus in Pocahontas, IA. He graduated from Pocahontas High School. He was united in marriage to Norma Billings on June 26, 1960, in Fort Dodge, IA. Elmer worked as a farmer, growing crops and livestock on the family farm. Known by all as a kind, gentle, and generous man, Elmer served on various church councils and later in life, enjoyed landscaping and mowing the church lawn. Elmer volunteered his time to the Gideons International and working with his son in a prison ministry called Brothers In Blue. In his free time, Elmer loved golfing with his buddies who traveled to various golf courses wherever the road took them. He was an avid watcher of Jeopardy, liked to feed the birds that came outside of his sun porch window, and taking long walks each day. He is survived by his wife Norma Lubinus of Spirit Lake; sons Larry (Cindy) Lubinus of Boone, IA; and Tim (Darlene) Lubinus of Ames, IA; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; brother John (Lavina) Lubinus of Lewistown, MT; and his sister-in-law Bonita Lubinus of Pocahontas, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Walter and Arnold Lubinus. Memorials may be directed in Elmer’s name to the Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church at 1204 L Ave., Milford, IA 51351.
