Joan Marie Resch Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Joan Marie Resch, 80, of Spirit Lake passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial for Joan will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be held in the St. Margaret’s Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Arrangements are under the direction of the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Online condolences may be left at www.spiritlakefuneralhome.com Joan was born on May 4, 1942, to Earl and Helen (Hand) Fries. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School and went on to earn her LPN Degree in Nursing from St. Anthony’s Nursing School in Carroll, Iowa. She worked for a few years for the Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, IA. She was united in marriage to Ron Resch on August 10, 1963, in Estherville, IA. During their early married years, Joan often followed her husband when he played in the Little Joe’s Polka Band. Joan enjoyed their life on the farm. She was a proud homemaker and mother and was known for her wonderful desserts and feeding the men during planting and harvest. She was kind and welcoming to her neighbors and always ready to provide afternoon lunch. She made sure each of her children knew how to cook and took great pride in that. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, listening to country music, playing along with game shows, and watching RFDTV and the Molly B Polka Show. She was an active member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she participated on various committees and was a member of the Rosary Society. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Ron Resch of Spirit Lake, IA; children Sam (Kari) Resch of Palatine, IL; Andy Resch of Spirit Lake, IA; Mike (Julie) Resch of Spirit Lake, IA; Patty (Bob) Macy of Wellsburg, IA; and Jake (Celeste) Resch of Crozet, VA; grandchildren Kiana, Emily, Nick (Makayla), Jennifer, James, Ben, Maxwell, and Hudson; brother Jim (Sandy) Fries of Lombard, IL; sister Mary Johnson of Milford, IA; brother-in-law Ramon (Betty) Resch of Cherokee, IA, nephews Donald Fries and Todd (Kris) Johnson, and niece Cathy Fries. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Lyn Johnson, and nephews Bill Fries and Mark Fries.
