Marilynne "Mari" Janet Nystrom

April 18, 1923 - March 30, 2021

Per her wishes, there will be no formal services. She began coming to Okoboji when was 3 years old and spent many summers at her grandparent’s cottage on Manhattan Beach. Her high school years were spent showing 5 gaited horses all over the Midwest. She also spent many rewarding hours after work for the Junior League as a volunteer teaching swimming to Polio victims. Mari graduated from Carlton College with a BA degree. She also assisted teaching Equestrian classes for the college. After college she taught dancing in Louisville, KY and later moved to Sioux City where she met and married Bill Nystrom. She and Bill became devotees of Frank Lloyd Wright and hired one of his architects to build a home in Sioux City. The architect became the architectural consultant for House Beautiful in the 1960’s, and Mari kept the magazines close by for referral. After retiring they made their home in Boca Grande, Gasparilla Island, FL. Mari was incredibly involved in the Women’s Club there, working for the Island she loved. Because of Bill’s illness, they moved back to Okoboji, built a home on Millers Bay and later moved to Jones Beach. Mari never gave up her love of nature, the arts, passion for Bridge and participating in the humorous side of life. She is survived by a Cousin Shirley McGreevy. Mari was preceded in death by her parents and husband Bill.
