Shirley A. Geiger

Shirley A. Geiger, 90, of Okoboji passed away on Friday, October 2, 2020 at her home in Okoboji. Graveside services for Shirley will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2020 in the Lake View Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Shirley was born on April 22, 1930 in Cylinder, IA to Truman and Ella (Birkland) Thompson. She graduated from Cylinder High School and earned her degree in teaching from UNI. She taught high school P.E. for many years. She was united in marriage to Richard Geiger on August 7, 1976 in Cylinder, IA. After her marriage, Shirley helped Richard in the office at his dental practice until their retirement when they moved to Okoboji. The couple moved to Cedar Rapids where Richard practiced Oral Surgery at his own practice. After retirement, the couple moved to Okoboji to live while also spending their winters at their condo in Longboat Key, FL. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping and collecting various Knick Knacks. She enjoyed telling the story about how each one came into her collection. She is survived by her step daughter Valerie (Steve) Padia of Hurst, TX; 2 step grandchildren; 2 step great great grandchildren; niece Julie (Dan) Doxtad of Galva, IA; great nephews James, Matthew (Megan), Lucas (Donna) and David (Jenna) Doxtad; 8 great great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her brother Willard “Whitey” (Elaine) Thompson.
