Betty Ann Platter

Betty Platter, 91, of Estherville passed away Saturday, February 10, at Good Samaritan Society in Estherville with her daughters by her side. Memorial services for Betty will be held Thursday, February 15, at 10:30 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Estherville. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Online condolences may be left at www.spiritlakefuneralhome.com Betty Ann Platter was born November 21, 1932, to Ernest and Lillian (Kinnard) Hanson in Estherville, Iowa and graduated from Estherville High School in 1951. On November 13, 1952, she was united in marriage to John “Jack” Platter in Jackson, Minnesota. She began working at Holy Family Hospital as an office manager and then worked for the Good Samaritan Society for over 40 years. In 1983 Betty and Jack moved to Mesa, Arizona and she worked for Good Shepard Villa until her retirement. Betty and Jack raised two daughters, Deb, and Tammy, and taught them not to take life too seriously. Their home was always filled with fun and laughter. When they were not laughing at home with their daughters Betty and Jack loved to attend local dances. In their retirement years Wild Rose Casino was a favorite place for them to spend time. There was never a dull moment when Betty and her sisters would get together. They loved to spend time together, making noodles, dumplings and peanut butter fudge. Those left to cherish the laughter and fun they created with Betty are her daughters Deb (Mark) Thiel of Estherville and Tammy (Tom) Hauber of Spirit Lake; grandchildren Chris(Katrina) Thiel, Chad (Brandy) Thiel, Jenny (Jason) Coulter, Nicholas (Jen) Thiel, Markus (Ashley) Thiel, Angela (Greg) Hoffman, Heidi (Jason) Schneider, Sara (Joe) Dicus, Amy (Clay) Newman; great-grandchildren Kya, Kali, Breidyn, Colton, Owen, and Lincoln Thiel; Jacob, Ryan, Addisyn, Ava Hoffman; Taylor, JD, Luke, Jordan Schneider; Jevin, Jovie, Jrue Dicus; Alexis, Cade, Alana, Avery, Aniston Newman; Sisters Janie (Bubs) Johnson, and Carolyn (Hermie) Geerdes; sisters-in-law Lois Platter and Jeannette Hanson; brothers-in-law Clyde Hall, and Chris Blass. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack; sisters Doris (Leland “Sparky”) Alig, Janice Hall, Coleen Blass; brother John Hanson; and brother-in-law Lowell Platter.
