Janet Koenig, 90, of Spencer passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. A rosary service will start at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church followed by a visitation up until the time of the service. Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Online condolences may be left at www.spiritlakefuneralhome.com She was born Sept 13, 1933, in Spencer Iowa to Omer and Marguerite O’Hearn. Passed away at age 90 on Sept 1, 2024. She lived for a brief time in California and Missouri, but spent most of her life in Spencer, Iowa. Graduated from Spencer High School in 1950 at the age of 16. During high school, she was in the marching band where she twirled the baton and was on the homecoming court. Married to Gerald Walter Koenig Sept 21, 1951. In her spare time while raising 10 children she worked for various local businesses including Carroll’s Bakery. She retired after 20 years from Spencer Hospital then went on to work 20 years more in motels in Spencer. Janet loved sewing, playing Bingo and puzzles, researching genealogy and her cat, but most of all, spending time and voicing opinions with her family. Survived by Mary (Randy) Goyette, Lincoln NE; Ann (Danny) Dodge, Spencer IA; Lisa (Randy) Hansen, Spencer IA; Martha (Gavin) Goodenow, Arvada CO; Ed (Brenda) Koenig, Spencer IA; Sara (Doug) Harris, Gilbert AZ; Tina Miller, Manteca CA. 21 grandchildren, Philip Goyette, Alison (Goyette) Bross, Adam Goyette, Joe Quail, Nick Quail, Jesse Yeager, Mike Yeager, Josh Dodge, Jill Dodge, Luke Dodge, Tony Hoger, Jenny (Hoger) Shadle, Katie Hoger, Kyle Hansen, Ryan Goodenow, Austin Goodenow, Little Eddie Koenig, Kayla Koenig, Beau Harris, Mandy Miller, and Zak Miller; 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald, her siblings Eugene O’Hearn, Pat Johnson, Joan Koenig, Janet’s twin sister Janice Schultz, and Jackie Sorensen.
