Robert “Bob” Hechtner, 86, of Milford passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow the service on Saturday in the Spirit Lake Memory Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Online condolences may be left at www.spiritlakefuneralhome.com Robert Wilson Hechtner was born September 1, 1936, in Sac City, Iowa. He was the only child of Robert Raymond and Dorothy (Wilson) Hechtner. Bob graduated from Ida Grove High School and attended college at Morningside College in Sioux City. He married Janice Conover on September 1, 55. They had 3 children together, Angela (Johnston), Arlan and Tamara (Galvin). Bob married JoAn (Stammer) Laubach on June 17, 1985. He became a father to Dawn and Jonathan Laubach. As a young man, Bob was an active participant in community activities. He was a member of the Methodist Church, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, Business Leaders, Booster and Country Clubs, and he became a Free Mason. Bob had a gift for connecting with people and a passion for sales. His long work career encompassed sales for Oliver Tractors, Bell Telephone Co., Ford Motor Co., Farm Bureau Insurance, Northwestern Mutual Insurance, cars, cars, and more car sales. Later in life he provided DOT certified transportation services for people to medical care and for disabled adults. Bob’s skills at listening and talking to people became a “gift for sales” that won him vacations, awards and many event tickets. He valued sharing these winnings with his family. He created many “family events” from his hard work that will be forever cherished. Bob was a generous man of modest means who always made time for you by listening first, then telling stories, and sharing an “I Love You.” You would often hear Bob talk about Attitude. It’s a little thing that makes a big difference. He let it be known when an “attitude adjustment” was needed. He was an optimistic person who valued hard work, being well dressed and promptness. In leisure hours, Bob enjoyed camping, fishing, cards, fishing, golfing, fishing, boating, fishing, games, fishing, fishing, gardening, fishing, listening to Big Bands (Glen Miller), fishing, reading, fishing, fishing, coffeeing Wednesdays, and Westerns on TV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond, and Dorothy Hechtner. Those left to cherish Bob’s memory include his wife, JoAn, children: Angela (Jim) Johnston, Arlan (Laura) Hechtner, Tamara (Jeff) Galvin, Dawn Laubach, Jonathan (Leslie) Laubach; grandchildren, Joe (Meagan) Johnston, Nick (Mallory) Johnston, Allison (Grady) Thiems, Michael (Kimberley) Hechtner, Matthew (Emilie) Hechtner, Quinn and Abbie Galvin, Connor, Alexander and Piper Laubach; great grandchildren: Vernon, Hazel, Calvin and Clara Johnston, Camden and Ryan Hechtner, Peyton Thiems and many extended family and friends.
